How to take care of Newborn Puppies

Today I will be discussing with you that if female dog is not providing the milk to the litters or there is infection in the milk due to which the puppies are dying.

The 2nd condition is that when the female dog gives birth for the first time than she doesn't accept her children and doesn't feed them.

The 3rd condition is that in case if the mother dies than how would you take care of the puppies. Many people have asked about this that what should we feed them and obviously the puppy would recover by the managemental way only. If you give proper feeding and temperature then he/she could come to survival or there are maximum chances of death.

How to Feed a Newborn Puppy

I will tell you some ways of feeding that what can you provide to your animal and how can you keep a good environment and temperature with which your puppy can come to survival.

The very first mistake that the dog owners do it that they think that the female dog feeds her children and so that puppies can drink any sort of milk. This is not the case, basically dog family is lactose intolerance family. This means dogs don't have lactose in them which is present in milk in a great quantity.

If you give your puppy the milk of cow or buffalo, then he won't be able to digest it either there would be blockade in the stomach or the stomach would swell and then the puppy could die due to diarrhea or constipation. So, you should never give the milk of cow or buffalo to your animal. This is not recommended and you cannot give this milk to a newborn puppy.

The amount of lactose in cow or buffalo milk is too much. So, you should avoid this either he's/she's small medium or adult. This is medically not accepted. Now let’s come to the point that what can you give them?

If their mother is not available then you can keep your puppy on milk replacer. You can easily get milk replacers from the market. The milk replacers that are available have from 23-44% protein.

There is a milk replacer available of Splab. It has very good amount of protein available in it. I would recommend this to you. Surely this is a bit expensive but not more than your animal and if you give this to your puppy than the protein level would remain maintained and your animal can come into the survival phase.

If you're in such an area where milk replacers are not available or you can't afford it than you can use goat’s milk. You have to dilute and use the goat’s milk. If there is half milk then add half water because there is not much lactose in goat’s milk.

It’s recommended not to use this but if you're using it than dilute it first so that the lactose can be diluted. It should be half milk and half water so that they can easily digest this.

How to Keep Newborn Puppies Warm

Now let’s talk about that how would you do the management? The room temperature for puppies must be from 21.5 to 29.5 degrees Celsius.

In summer, if the temperature is 40 then you can keep puppy in room temperature and he/she would be maintained easily.

You can turn on the fan. You have to take special care in the winter as hypothermia can occur very quickly. The temperature downs very quickly and the reason behind this is that if the puppy lives with mother, then the mother keeps providing him/her heat. If totally alone then you have to provide heat. Your puppy would feel comfortable in the temperature I just told you above.

Secondly, you will have to provide soft bedding to the animal so that he/she can feel comfortable. For litter, you will have to rub the belly and keep a tissue with you so that you can wipe off the litter.

The main reason for a puppy's death is mastitis. This means that the milk gets infected due to which puppies die. This is an unknown death and mostly dog owners don't know why their dog is dying.

Another reason is that if the female dog doesn't have sufficient milk or she's doing too much litter, then this can also be the reason and puppies would die day by day. The main death reason is that if the milk gets infected then all the puppies would die within two days.

Clearly observe your animal when your female dog delivers puppies and observe whether your puppies are dying or not and whether she's feeding them properly or not.
