Scarlet Macaw (Ara Macao) is a
big American parrot often found in central and southern areas of America with different
colors like red, yellow, and blue. It is the member of a big family of
Neotropical parrots which are called “Macaws”. Scarlet Macaw is native to moist
evergreen forestry of central & southern areas of America.
Scarlet Macaw has suffered local
extinction in its native areas due to the destruction of habitation and imprisonment
for subsequent trade. But in other areas from north to southern Tamaulipas, Scarlet
Macaw remained very famous. Now on the island of Coiba, Scarlet Macaw can also
be found. Scarlet Macaw is the National Bird of Honduras. Comparative to
blue and gold macaw, Scarlet Macaw is a very famous bird in aviculture for its attractive
feathers.
Scarlet Macaw is around 32
inches (81 cm) long. More than half of the size of all macaws consists of a typical
tail. Scarlet Macaw has a bigger tail than other large macaws. The normal
weight is around 2.2 lb (1 kilogram).
Lifespan
The normal life of Scarlet
Macaw is expected to be 40 to 50 years; though it can live up to 75 years in
captivity (imprisonment).
Appearance and Colors
The plumage of Scarlet Macaw is
generally scarlet, but the back and tail-coverts feathers are graceful blues. The
larger upper wing coverts are yellow, higher edges of flight feathers are dark-blue
like as the ends of tail feathers. Underneath of wing & tail flying
feathers are dark-red with gold color and some have green in wings.
Scarlet Macaw has bare white
skin from eyes to the bill. Minute white feathers are controlled on the face cover.
The upper mandible is typically light horn in color but the lower is black. The
adolescents have dark eyes whereas the adults have light yellow eyes. It is often
chaotic with the marginally bigger green-winged Macaw, which has different red
lines on the face and no yellow in the wings.
Scarlet Macaws has a very loud voice,
but occasionally make low pitched deep squawks squeak; the shrieks also considered
several miles to call for their crowd.
Behavior
A characteristic finding is of
a single-bird or a couple flying over the forest canopy, however in some areas groups
can be seen. They possibly will gather at clay licks. Scarlet Macaw talks mainly
through loud voice; however, vocal communication is extremely variable and caged
macaws are recognized to be skilled mimics of humanoid dialogs.
Feeding
Normally Scarlet macaws eat differently
seeds sometimes hard and even large, fruits on trees, nuts, and sodium-packed grime.
Breeding
While moderately docile mostly
in a year, Scarlet Macaws may be dauntingly hostile during the breeding process.
Scarlet Macaws are faithful birds, with folks remaining with one other half throughout
their lives. The female lays 2 or 3 white eggs in the tree hole and hatches for around
5 weeks. The baby birds fledge from nest around 90 days after hatching and
leave their parents after one year. Adolescents reach sexual maturity at about
5 years of age.
Distribution and Habitat
The South American variety is widespread
and covers the Amazon basin; covering the Peru east of the Andes to Bolivia.
In Bolivia, it is most contemporary in Aquicuana Reserve, situated in the Beni
Department near the city of Riberalta (Capital of Bolivian Amazon). In Central
America, the variety prolongs from extreme eastern and southern Mexico &
Panama over Guatemala and Belize (island of Coiba) and rarely on the inland of
Panama, and in Costa Rica in remote areas on the Pacific Coast; the Nicoya Peninsula,
the Carara National Park, and Peninsula de Osa.
Scarlet Macaw has been absconded
or intentionally released into Florida, but there is no indication that populace
is breeding and may only persevere due to frequent releases or escapes. Scarlet
Macaws live moist coastal rainy jungles, open forests, river edges, and grasslands.
Conservation Status
The habitation of Scarlet
Macaws are also thought to have an extreme latitudinal choice for any bird in the genus
Ara. The assessed all-out territorial range covers 6,700,000 Kilometers. However,
Scarlet Macaw's habitat is rambling, and the bird is generally seen in a minute
population spread all over its original range in Middle America. Although Scarlet
Macaw has found in huge quantities mostly in its original range at South
America, the breed is categorized as less popular by the IUCN.
