Amazon
Parrot is the most famous and very common parrot from the species “Amazona”. Amazon
Parrots are medium-sized birds innate to the ‘new world’ spreading from South America
to Mexico, and the Caribbean.
Maximum
Amazon Parrots are largely green, with emphasizing colors that depend on the breed
and can be fairly bright. Amazon Parrots feed mainly on the seeds, nuts, and
fruits, along with leafy substance.
Lifespan
The average life of Amazon Parrots is expected to be 50 years or above in
captivity.
Description
Various
Amazon Parrots have an extraordinary skill to mimic human talking and other
sounds. Partially because of this, they are prevalent as pets as well as companion
parrots, and a small industry has established in breeding parrots in imprisonment
for this market. This acceptance has led to various parrots being taken from
the wild to the extent that some breeds have become endangered. The agreement on
“International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora Treaty” has
made the imprisonment of wild parrots for pet-trade prohibited as an effort to help
safeguard wild inhabitants.
Taxonomy and Naming
The
species Amazona was recognized by “René Lesson” in the 1830s. Amazon Parrots were
Latinized variety with the name “Amazone” given to them in the 18th century
by “Comte de Buffon”, who thought that the breed is native to ‘Amazonian’ forests.

The
classification of Yellow-crowned Amazon is doubtful, with some establishments
only register a single breed (A. ochrocephala), whereas others divided it into more
than three (3) species which include; A. ochrocephala, A. auropalliata, and A.
oratrix. The division is mostly based on changes associated with the extension
of yellow to plumage and the color of beak and legs. Phylogenetic study of
mtDNA does not provide outdated riven.
The
taxonomic standing of Blue-winged Amazon has also been interrogated.
Reclassification of the Yellow-Faced Parrot
The yellow-faced parrot was usually included in this species of Amazon parrots, but the current study
has revealed that it is closer to the short-tailed parrot and the breeds from species
“Pionus”, consequential to transfer to the monotypic species “Alipiopsitta”.
Hypothetically Extinct Species
Inhabitants
of Amazon Parrots that existed on the Caribbean islands of Martinique and
Guadeloupe is now inexistent. It is not acknowledged if they were distinct
species, subspecies, or if they originated from parrots found in the islands by
humans, so they are considered as theoretical extinct breeds. Inhabitants of numerous
parrot breeds were defined largely in the natural literature of first tourists,
and then scientifically defined by some naturalists mostly in the 20th
century, with no more proof that the past comments and without samples. A design
of a sample termed “George Edwards Parrot” has occasionally been considered a
possibly dissimilar, nonexistent species, but it may also have been a
yellow-billed or Cuban Amazon with irregular colors.
Aviculture
Yellow-headed
Amazon, Yellow-naped Amazon, Orange-winged Amazon, and Turquoise-fronted Amazon
are the “Amazon parrot species” which are usually retained as pets. Amazon Parrots,
alongside Macaws and the Grey Parrot, are recognized for their excellent vocal capabilities,
liveliness, and deftness with their feet. Well-groomed Amazon Parrots can be reliable
friends. However, some amazons even well-groomed can become hostile; probably
during the mating period. To uphold health and happiness, pet-parrots need much
more exercise and training than other house-trained animals including cats and dogs.
Amazon Parrots need considerate, manipulative toys, and rewards for a good pet,
or they can display fairly hostile behaviors. Amazon Parrots have a robust, distinctive
need to chew, thus necessitate safe, destructible toys.
